TLDR:
Starkware announces the development of a new open-source sequencer designed to improve performance and decentralization
Pxls open-sources their giveaway tool
Haven’t you heard? It’s Starknet not StarkNet
A new open-source rust-based sequencer?
The StarkWare team informed us of a new open-source rust-based sequencer developed to improve Starknet’s performance and decentralization.
The new sequencer will be implemented in stages until a Rust-based sequencer eventually replaces the current python-based sequencer.
As you would expect from StarkWare, it’ll be completely open-source and available under the Apache 2.0 License.
Pxls open-sources their on-chain giveaway tool!
Building in the open is at the heart of Starknet. The ecosystem is early, with teams playing around and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
At the start of 2023, Pxls, alongside Argent, hosted the first on-chain giveaway on Starknet, with over 35,000 wallets entering the giveaway!
The giveaway's success was made possible by the tool that the Pxls team built. But rather than keeping it to themselves, in line with the ethics of Starknet, they open-sourced it for everyone to play around with it.
Awesome, awesome Account Abstraction
Account Abstraction is a genuine gamechanger for blockchain usability. That’s why many of us have decided to build on the network over others.
But explaining its benefits with real examples, not hypotheticals, can be challenging.
Here’s one, though!
52 transactions signed at once thanks to multicall. Multicall bundles transactions together so you can complete them all at once instead of signing each one as you would on a network without Account Abstraction.
Batching transactions together is far better than the alternative, which is just one of many benefits of Account Abstraction.
Software mansion releases a Cairo 1.0 package manager
Last week, the first alpha release of Scarb, a build toolchain and package manager for everything Cairo, was announced.
Scarb is a tool built by the team at Software mansion, in close collaboration with the Starkware team, providing a means to scaffold new Cairo projects.
What makes Scarb great is that, unlike Protostar, there is support for the three major platforms, MacOS, Linux, and Windows!
Starknet community call #32
Starkware held the Starknet community call #32, hosted by Lead Developer Advocate Henri Lieutad, focused on discussing the upcoming Starknet v0.11.0 with the Builder’s council.
The Builder’s council is a small team of builders in the ecosystem assembled to decentralize decisions made regarding Starknet’s core architecture.
Keep an eye on your Starknet wallets
Regenesis is an exciting network upgrade coming to Starknet in a few months. Unfortunately, because it's a network upgrade, you'll have to make sure your Argent X and other Starknet wallets are properly updated to support the latest version of the network.
Make sure you regularly open your wallets and keep them updated. If you don’t know how to do this, follow Argent’s guide:
Test-to-earn for all, not for the select few!
Influence has announced that their testnet phase 3 is now live. This means anyone can play and test Influence - a grand strategy space MMO - and earn rewards!
Actually, it’s Starknet, not StarkNet
In a HUGE (well, maybe not so huge) rebranding, StarkNet is now Starknet.
This change is part of a light rebrand the team has been working on as they’ve come to realize that the spelling of Starknet using camel case is old-fashioned and creates a lot of inconsistencies.
Update your articles, documentation, and apps!
Briq x Starknet Id
Another one…for Starknet Id.
Every week it seems that there’s a new integration for Starknet Id, and last week was no different. Briq announced that their latest version supports Starknet Id and can directly download a set image from the briq website!
Awesome Developer’s Resources
On episode 10 of the Starkstruck podcast, Lead Developer Advocate Henri Lieutad features Tarrence Van As from Cartridge as they discuss video games and blockchain UX for end users
Starkience explains how social recovery works with Argent and why it’s important
Learn how to create and deploy your own custom NFT on Starknet with Cairo with Exy’s guide in partnership with MatchboxDAO
Argent published the setting up the ultimate development environment on Starknet with Protostar, Argent X and Starkscan
💭 Things we found Interesting
George at Olive wrote an interesting thread explaining how Starknet could develop as it decentralizes
FreshPizza released a new dashboard that tracks total-value-locked (TVL) across Starknet DeFi
👀 What to look out for!
StarkWare Sessions is happening this week. We’re incredibly excited about it, and we suspect you are too!
Our co-founders, plus some of our team, will be attending, so come say hey to us if you see us. We’d love to meet you and discuss all things Starknet.
For those who will be in Tel Aviv for the Starkware sessions between 5th - 6th Feb, Raphael Durkin will hold Starknight, the official after-party for the conference!
If you’re unable to attend StarkWare Sessions, keep an eye on your Twitter, it’s likely that there’s going to be an abundance of exciting updates and announcements.
💭 You SHOULD be following this person
We’re adding a new section to Last week in Starknet, highlighting one person in the Starknet ecosystem.
This week it’s @Web3zy - the Head of Community and Partnerships at Influence.
You should follow them as they share incredible insights about what’s being built at Influence and how they’re doing it. But that’s not all. They also write great threads that break down complicated subjects that leave you feeling very bullish about the Starknet ecosystem.
